The requirements of production

We made a 90 second short film for a competition called DepicT! and afterwards it was distributed using YouTube. DepicT! is watersheds international competition set up for filmmakers over the world to make a 90 second short and win £2500 and if you make it onto the shortlist you win a networking pass to encounters short and film festival. Accept the DepicT! challenge and get creative in just a minute and a half to be in with a chance of winning up to £2500 prize money, invaluable industry exposure, and a host of other exclusive prizes.

there are more than one type of moving image media, some of these are; feature length films, tv series, Gifs, On demand, Sky, Cinema I am going to explain what one of these mean and the oe i am going to explain are a Gifs. Gif stands for Graphics Interchange Format. GIFs are commonly used for humorous effect. One or more video sources can be edited, rearranged, or combined to create an absurd juxtaposition. (the fact of two things being seen or placed close together with contrasting effect.) to create the opposite effect intended by the creator of the original work, or to emphasize and exaggerate a minor detail. for example:

We had roughly 4 and a half weeks to plan and shoot our film this included storyboards, risk assessments, location releases, minor and major releases it also included location scouting where we had to take pictures and prop/costume list and a budget list.

The equipment I used was a shoulder guard to help keep the camera steady when i took a 180 shot and tracking shots, DSLR camera for taking the footage and the tripod for still shots when Joe was sitting up, looking around etc. I took the role as cameraman as i have had experience with acting but i have no confidence and i have more experience with a camera in my group we had Joe and his friend George act, we also had Shannon act but unfortunately we had a technical difficulty and the scenes she was in and a couple more shots just disappeared for unknown reasons but we didn't have time to re-shoot them so we just edited what we had and hoped it made some sense.

We let Joe edit as he has the most experience with editing and he was also the director so he knew how he wanted them to look as for the storyboards, script, risk assessment etc. we all chose which ones we would do so i did the risk assessment and script while Joe did the storyboards and the editing and Shannon did the shot list, production schedule and the costume/prop list. We didn't need any funding but if we did there are certain ways to get funding for example in amateur movies they get funding from Kickstarters, Mega corporations, Lottery funding, Grants, Private Properties etc. but since the only thing we needed was a USB we didn't need any funding therefore we didn't really need a budget list.  we would have needed funding for an old world war 2 costume but since Joe was the director he changed his mind about using a WW2 character and used someone from the ''future'' so we just used casual clothing.

I searched what lottery funding was and this is the search result i got 'Big Lottery Fund is a non-departmental public body responsible for distributing funds raised by the National Lottery for "good causes". Since 2004 it has awarded over £6.2 billion to more than 130,000 projects across the UK.'

Kickstarter is a crowdfunded platform focused on creativity and if you have an idea but need help with finance you can go to kickstarter share your idea and if people like it they will give you donations.

Our time frame for this project was 4 and a half weeks two for planning two and a half for shooting and we managed to meet our deadline even though we had some big problems like actors being ill and everyone not being in on shooting days so we experienced some major problems technical and actors being ill but we still managed to meet the deadline.

We had no legal issues as our teacher Sean sent an email to the police saying that we were shooting a film in a public area this is an example of clearance also known as permissions and we made no copyright infringements

copyright is the exclusive and assignable legal right, given to the originator for a fixed number of years, to print, publish, perform, film, or record literary, artistic, or musical material.

Public liability insurance covers the cost of legal action and compensation claims made against your business if a third party is injured or their property suffers damage whilst at your business premises or when you are working in their home, office or business property because we are students we are under the colleges public liability insurance

A motion picture completion guaranty is a written contract that guarantees a motion picture will be finished and delivered on schedule and within budget. The majority of films produced and fully financed by the major Hollywood studios are, in effect, self-guaranteed. However, most independently financed films, including many that are released and distributed by the major studios, require a completion guaranty.  The completion bond marketplace has consolidated in recent years and the remaining surety companies will not consider a submission under $5,000,000 without an equal amount of collateralization.

The producer raises money to make the film. Works with the writer to improve a script, works with a director to choose actors and key crew members like production designer, camera person, composer, editor. This person may not always be around during filming as they could be out raising money for the next project or trying to sell the last project.

The production manager in charge of ensuring the film comes in safely, on time and on budget. Is in charge of hiring any crew not already chosen by the producer or director. Most big questions go to this person first, if they can't solved, they go to the producer.
